STRATZER / Characterization / Waste management in schools
Identification of waste management issues in schools and proposed solutions
During data collection for the Quebec City Metropolitan Community‘s (‘CMQ’, in French) Waste Management Plan, Stratzer identified major flaws in the waste management of elementary and secondary schools. The average waste recovery rate of these institutions was at 11%, the rest being disposed of. The causes of this alarming finding were the subject of an extensive investigation and school visits. Stratzer’s work led to a CMQ report with proposed solutions, including a better transfer of waste collections from the inside to the outside of school buildings.
