Review of the Impacts of the Application of Garbage Management Plans to Vessels of 100 tonnes and more

The purpose of the study is to identify the challenges and potential impacts of applying the International Maritime Organization (IMO) garbage management plans to vessels over 100 gross tonnes (GT). To assist Transport Canada in this decision, Stratzer conducted a regulatory analysis and then collected data on the affected Canadian fleet of vesselsbetween 100 and 400 GTs. More than 80 vessels were documented regarding their current processes, their waste generation and the impact of the new requirements. Finally, Stratzer identified the current and potential obstacles to achieving compliance on the vessels while proposing solutions.
