Waste Characterization to examine the impact of a Pay-as-you-throw system
The City of Beaconsfield is the first city in Quebec to implement a pay-as-you-throw system for curbside garbage collection. As part of this project, Stratzer conducted a characterization study of household waste from 200 housing units on the territory. The study, conducted in 2017, and again the next year, assessed the outflow rate (or bin lift rate), contamination, and fill level of recyclables and garbage bins. In addition, the 2018 study also included sampling and characterization of garbage from 51 households participating in a home composting pilot project.
