STRATZER / Municipal Services / Prospective waste inventory
Analysis of Waste disposal and recovery in the Montreal Metropolitan Community
The Montreal Metropolitan Community (MMC) is facing important challenges due to the quantity of waste to be disposed of outside the territory and the limited capacity of the current landfills. That is why Stratzer has developed, according to various recovery scenarios, a prospective inventory of the quantities to be disposed of by 2025 and 2031. The analysis takes into account the recycling targets of the Government of Québec’s 2019-2024 Action Plan, particularly for organics recovery. In addition, Stratzer examined the progress made by other major North American cities to compare their performance in reducing waste disposal to that of the MMC.
